Question: I am creating a website for my small business and I’m not very web savvy. So I got a basic monthly package through Yahoo Small Business, and frankly their web design package isn’t that good. I’ve found another company I like better, and they told me I should "point" my registered domain name to them for hosting. How do I do this? And if I do, will I end up paying both Yahoo and the new company a monthly fee? I would appreciate answers from anyone who is experienced with this.

Answer: Based on your registering domain name query above, why not try Godaddy.

If you are looking for a web hosting service or if you need “unlimited” hosting service, we recommend you try myHosting. If you are looking for a company with very few negative comments, then try search for MyHosting review to see what we mean. They also give free domain name, unlimited bandwidth, unlimited storage, unlimited add-on domains, friendly Site builder and much more for such a low monthly price. You can get MyHosting for only $4.84/month.

If you need a VPS instead of just registering domain name, you can enter the Coupon Code below during checkout to get Up to 6 months FREE on VPS plans at MyHosting. If you want both Windows (Microsoft) and Linux Platform in one hosting plan, including unlimited diskspace and bandwidth, with 20 Exchange-based Email – then the coupon below takes $10 off the Premium myHosting plan.

If the new company is going to be hosting your website and domain name, then no, you will only need to pay the new company. The process of moving your domain varies between hosting companies. If they are a decent company they should offer you some free support.

If you need help designing a website, check craigslist.com in your local area, and then look at computer services. many local web designers offer website desgin for under $500, and they will deal with the setup usually.

You have to change the DNS servers to point to the new host and they should propagate within 24-48 hours.

You terminate the hosting with Yahoo and go with the new host. I’ve done this with a few of my sites, so this is pretty easy stuff to do. Sometimes the host will do it for you, mine did at least.

You need to go to the domain registrar’s dns settings and change the entries for your server to the new server address. If you have the domain registered with yahoo you may need to find another registrar when you take the site away from them and there may be a transfer charge to pay.

Domain Transfer. All the Registrars have got detailed description on how to transfer from somebody else to their hosting.

Your domain transfer will not succeed unless you unlock the domain, remove privacy, set up a valid administrative email, and apply the correct authorization code(for .com, .net, .org, .biz, .us. or .info names).

To Authorize a Domain Transfer to Your Account
Log in to your Account Manager.
From the Domain Names menu, select Manage Domains. The Domain Control Center opens.
In your folder list, click Pending Transfers.
Click the Authorization button and select Begin Transfer Authorization from the list. The Authorization button is located in the right corner of the toolbar.
In the Transfer Authorization section, enter your Transaction ID and Security Code from the email notification you received regarding this transfer and click Continue.
If applicable, enter your Authorization Code that you received from the current Registrar and click Continue.
